Tank getting cold at night

Hey everyone. I've had my ball python since mid summer and live in Wisconsin. The temperatures were fine at night up until now. At night the temperature has been dropping to as low as 64 degrees in the tank since we don't have our heat on at night. I have an under the tank heating pad, which the snake will curl up on top of on cold nights. But our winters can get really cold and harsh here. Do I need to get another source of heat?

I was thinking a ceramic heater on a timer that would turn on when my heatlamp turns off. But how do you place them in the enclosure if you have a top on it? And I want to keep the heat up at night in the most inexpensive way.

Maybe another UTH on a thermostat? Im new the snake game too but thats what i could imagine would increase the heat in the tank.

Ceramic heat lamps could help you out here. Also, you should probably insulate the tank, I've never hard to but there is definitely advice for it around here.

I dont use tanks but I have used a radiant heat panel and if you had one of those over the screen of the tank controled by a tstat you could keep temps warmer.

I use an oil filled heater on a tstat(in the room) but have the radiant heat panel for quarrantine set ups.

Try a radiant heat panel. Reptile Basics has some great radiant heat panels that are not too expensive. Thats what I used when I had my BP in a tank and they work great. You have to use a thermostat with them since they can get fairly hot but you should be using one anyways to control the temp on a heat pad. Temperatures getting that low in the tank can be extremely bad for your snake. What are the temps during the day?

The temps during the day range from 80-90 with the basking light i'd say. And I'm using a digital therm. to gauge the temp.

The ones that RBI sells come with mounting screws so you can mount it under the tanks lid. You would want it inside. RHPs are cool because they don't get particularly hot themselves, they more or less warm up the surface of the enclosure where the snake is . They will work to get the ambient temps up somewhat also and they don't suck moisture out of the air like a CHE.
