Bait as food?

Would it be ok to use worms from a bait shop as food for our pacman frog?

absolutely not.
i posted about this a couple weeks ago.. i had bait shop crickets kill a chameleon and almost kill another. worms are notorious for being even worse... you need to get all organic earth worms from a reputable source. or dig them up yourself from a toxin free source.

I thought that they could carry bad things if you just dug them up. I was told never to use bait as prey or wild things as prey.

you just have to be careful about where you dig them up... i know a ton of people that keep compost piles in their backyards and use the worms for their turtles though. dont get me wrong, if you dont know if there are pesticides or anything else around then you dont want to take a chance...

I agree with Colin. Heres a green idea for you, buy a large tub and put some dirt in it, throw in about 1000 worms, after each dinner throw some table scraps in with them (food waste in land fills releases methane gas) they will decompose the food, your have an endless supply of worms and compost

They come from farms just like the crickets you buy why would they be full of toxins? You really don't know where your pet store feeders come from do you? Big fat earth worms are great food for turtles but would not feed many to them vary any herps diet except snakes we all know what snakes eat.if somebody tells you they are organic worms they are crazy just trying to rip you off.i raise all my own feeders because of cost.

the bait store ones are full of toxins because they are shipped in potting soil and other less-than-food-grade agents that, like i said, are full of toxins.... one or two won't kill an animal but a stead diet could.
i don't mean to sound like a jerk, but it really does matter.

a steady diet of worms will kill them too. prepared foods are best but lots of herps won't eat them.turtles that I have kept ate ciclid gold oscar food they grew great on that diet .the turtle pellets would give them a dull coloration & shell that just did,nt look like wild turtles so you got to feed what works good for your animal.
