Just getting my collony started. Help me out :)

i just bought a group of 1.2 at a show and im goin to start breeding. im positive the larger female is pregnant and looks like shes about to pop. the other female is still fairly small. the male is super spastic though and pretty much runs the tank :p.

anyway just wondering if i should go ahead and put the male in a differnt tank since one of the females is expecting soon. and should this always be done once i get more males and such?

keep them together forever. if you take the male out he may not be welcome back. asf's get pregnant back to back and seem to get larger after several litters so breeding back to back is not a problem. there will be a dominant female so that male will calm down..

i remove the young as soon as they are weaned because they can accidentally kill the newborns. they all sit in a huge pile and smother the smaller ones.

No need to remove the male, many keep their group together at all time without any problem, they will actually care for the babies as well.

Once the babies are weaned just removed them.

    alright thanks guys.

Only thing im concerned about is getting over run with having so many of them. I think ill be ok, cuz between my room mates and i, we have 6 snakes and a savana monitor. As well as 3 beardys and two chameleons who like a pinky a few times a month.

Youll be fine with 1.2, only advice is to once the babies are grpwn and are mature seperate them by sex so you dont end up with any more than 4 moms or yes you will be quickly over run with them.

even if you breed too many they don't really stink and they don't out grow adult ball pythons.. worst case you sell a few trios locally or freeze them.

Sounds like you're doing great... I also provide a wheel for my ASFs so they can release some of that energy. It also stops them from chewing if you have them in a plastic enclosure. Not everyone does it but I do, and I also haven't had any aggression issues with my rats either. I also don't provide mine with a house or anything.
