Humidity problems...

i am new to herping but i have everything going well except keeping the humidity up. i mist the aquarium, every 2 hours when i'm home, place a wet towel in top and still cannot get the humidity higher than 60% and it even drops to 40% while i'm at work and at night when i sleep. the problem lies during shedding. he shed 5 days ago but it was smaller pieces and took a couple days to finish. is there any way i can keep it up? my heat lamps don't help but i cannot afford UTH and a thermostat right now. anyone have any ideas to get me by till i get the UTH and thermostat.

Make sure your screen top is foil treated first of all. It really helps keep humidity stable in tanks. If it's not, I have a pic tutorial I can send if you like.
Wet towels are not a good solution, since they can harbor bacteria and dry out fast.

Also, for heat retention and security, make sure the back and both sides of the tank are covered and insulated. These steps are key to keeping tanks working well.

Also, when your BP is going into shed you can add extra paper towels over the top of the hide. Mist these twice daily.

What is your substrate?

I had mine covered with towels and plexiglass and was struggkling to stay in the mid 30's despite misting as much as I possibly could. I switched to tin foil covering about 90% of the lid and I stay about 55% with one misting a day and a CHE

Average 55% in mine. 20 Gal Long with the integrated locking screen top slider
3/4 of it covered ny 1/4" plexi and a water dish filled all the time. No misting ever.
Substrate = eco earth (coconut husk bricks expanded and then dried in the oven)

Have never had a shed problem. She sheds great/ overnight and all in 1 big piece.

In the winter it is deathly dry in my apartment so I did my snakes and myself a favor last year - I bought a humidifier, stuck it right next to their tanks, set it for 55%. Problem solved.
