    Rodent Power

    http://blog.makezine.com/archive/200...rojects_1.html

Very interesting video, one mouse can power 1 led. I wonder for those who have a lot more than just one mouse, how much power they could produce? Wouldnt it be something if your mice/rats could produce enough power for the room they are in?!

Wouldn't be worth it. All the money you saved by having enough rodents to power the room they were in would be eaten away when it came to their food bill.

    Interesting concept though.

Wouldnt be worth it right now, maybe in a few years when low rpm can generate more power. I just thought it was cool

It'd be worth it if you already had a rat colony to feed your snake colony...

It'd be cool to have enough rats to charge up a battery that stores enough energy to heat and light the snake and rat rooms, then everybody wouldn't have to complain about their electric bill going up from keeping snakes.

You could just make a small wind generator and mount it on your roof. You would definitely be able to power a small snake room, and it probably wouldn't cost much more than it would to make enough of those to create any real power.

Here's a non-turbine generator that can be build for cheap and stacked.

    Here are some turbine generators:

You could even produce methane from the poo and burn that for heat.

You would need a lot of poo though and it would be smelly.

The wind idea is neat, but you just have to be careful putting one on the roof of your house. A lot of places restrict people from building anything over 35 feet without getting a permit first. Also if a wind turbine gets to much turbulence from surrounding structures they tend to wear out very quickly. I've actually been looking into putting up a couple wind turbines and selling it on the grid. As long as I don't make more the 24 kW I will not be required to have a business license as an energy provider. If I go over 24 kW then I need to get the license. Right now I think starting small with two or three 1 kW turbines may be the way to go. They actually build a 100 ft tower that a person can put up on their own.
