What happened to this little guy? DU warning?
I work in a pet store part time, this little guy was breed in the store for a feeder. We clean the tanks everyday and wipe the bottms out and everything, they are kept on aspen bedding well cared for. I was cleaning out the cage today and saw this little guy and picked him up because I thought that he was too cute and that's when I saw his leg. What could this be? The owners told me I had 2 options, either take him home and try to nurse him or put him down. I want to know what it is and it he can heal from it before I go and put him down.
Here is one picture,
As you can see he isn't to inhibtaed (Spelling?)by it.
Hope ya'll can help me help this little guy.

Looks like someone else in the cage did an amputation on the little guy. If you can keep it from getting infected, he so do OK. I had a mama mouse that would eat the tails and sometimes the back legs off of her babies. Really didn't slow the babies down very much at all. Rodents are just wierd sometimes.

Thats what I was thinking, he was the smallest in the tank, I have H2O2ed it and put some neosprine on it and he seems to be doing ok so far. I'm just hoping he will be ok from mom now as I'm not sure he was off her just yet. But he does seem to check out the labrock that I brought home as well. My daughter has fallen in love with the cute little guy. I also brought home a very dilute cream and a berkshire cream as well male and female Juvies. So we shall see. The male is so light he looks silverish.

I'd suggest taking a trip to the vet to clean and close the wound and antibiotics and whatever else, as well as to make sure that there isn't a random bone that might puncture through any healed tissue. Either way, good luck.

Thats my plan for now, just have to wait for them to open in the Morning and then get a appointment for the little guy and hope thatthey can get everything done during the appointment.

Don't use peroxide, it will just damage healing tissue. (never use it on ANY open wound) It works great for getting blood off of clothing though.
Use warmed saline or chlorhexidine solution and polysporin. I'd get him on antibiotics for 14 days just in case the bone was damaged or exposed for any length of time.

Oh, poor little guy! I remember seeing someone with a 3 legged pet rat on the site not too long ago but I can't remember who. Good luck with him.
a long while back I had a male in with a female that delivered and he bit off the feet and tails of a couple of pinkies. That was my first lesson in all males are not good fathers.
