    Out with the old...

And in with the new. I fed off my original breeders last night and brought in a new group of 1.3 last night from Greg Bennett up here in GA. The females were producing 2 a litter, so it was time for a new younger group.

Interestingly enough, I didn't have any clean bedding to change last night (just got new bedding today and finished cleaning the enclosure just now) and I had four weaned babies still left, and figured I'd see what happened. Since the new group was being introduced into an enclosure with other's smells, they didn't have a problem with the little ones at all and all eight are peacefully co-habitating.

Let me tell you - I was so happy to feed off that old MEAN male - he took swipes at me whenever he could. All the others were sweet as could be.

This group is very handelable - and - I had an escape and recovery today. I was holding one and didn't have as good a hold on her tail as I thought and she jumped out and ran like lightning behind the incubator. Sammy the cat kept watch while I blocked off areas of escape.

Moved the incubator out and she was in the back of the incubator in a hollow area and it was easy to grab her tail and put her back where she belonged! Whew!

The original group were solids, this group is more pied or "traditional" I guess. I like them, since they are different to me.

    Re: Out with the old...

I just started reducing my ASFs. They don't grow quite fast enough for me to take up a ton of rack space for them. I had 6 groups of 1.3 and now am down to 2. I am going to put together another 2 groups of 1.3 to replace them. I also have a crapload of weans. They do produce a lot!

    Robin,

Everyone that gets ASF's from me tell me they are nice as can be. LOL! I guess they just don't like me.

Would you like you if you were grabbed with tongs?

Great to see you here - they really are a very nice group - despite the one escapee that I was able to recover!

    Very true!

I didn't start doing that until I got bite a few times. I think they've gotten nicer every generation.
