    sticky feces

I have apx. 40 ASF's and ONE of the males (who is the right size to be fed to my BP) has sticky/film covered/not normal looking feces.

Do you think that it could have a parasite/illness that it may pass on to my BP?

Also, if so, do you think I should euthanize/discard it or wait it out and see if it turns around?

Film or mucous covered feces can also be the second type of excretment they produce and redigest. The mucous slows down the digestive process in the stomach, allowing for a better breakdown of the nutrients.

It's perfectly normal. They eat those ones.

Wow, that is gross. Could you direct me to more information on this phenomenon. I find it quite interesting.

It's pretty standard procedure. Rats have simple stomachs, meaning they dont have several compartments like a cow etc... so, for them to completely digest plant matter, they have to take another round at it.

It's pretty common in most small animals with simple stomachs that also eat plant matter. Cows regurge and rechew it up, rats poo it out and usually take it directly from their anus as it comes out.

It's called coprophagy, you can google it.
