Switching male rats

I couldn't find which post that talked about switching male rats weekly to make them more interest in mating (don't know for the male of the females).

I just tried that and the next day one of the tubs has pinks. My concern now is would the male harm the pinks since they are not his?

I don't use nursing tubs for the females because I'm not very keen on catching and holding them to see if they are prego, because I've been biten twice, still has some psychological effect.
And I can't tell from just looking at them from the top.

He may or may not. I wouldnt put it past him to destroy the litter, but I guess you'll just have to wait and see, or remove the mother and litter to make sure it doesnt happen...

LOL . . . I'm psychologically tainted from being bit as well!

The females ready to pop look like they swallowed a baseball. My experience has been that if the dad is good with any litters he won't mind if they are not his babies. I try to keep my males away from expecting mom but if I have one in with the female and he destroys a litter he is considered a bad father and will be given to a boa friend as a feeder.

All but 1 of my males can be switched around and dont care. I have one super horn dog rat that will hump a stick and trample anything in its way including babies, but he doesn't kill them on purpose. I should make a video of this guy.. he is so funny some times..

I've had a couple of girls have a litter while in with the male. Sometimes they just look like they aren't pregnant and then the next day... bam! Litter!

In those cases, my males haven't messed with the litter as far as I can tell, but I usually keep the girls in with the same male until they pop. I don't think I've ever had them have a litter when the male present didn't father the litter.
