    Gulf Coast Box Turtle

Ok so some of you remember my Escondido Falls pictures, where I found a Box Turtle.

I spoke to a friend of mine Al Roach, who runs Reptastic.com, and he was telling me that Box Turtles are not found any more West, than Texas.

He was telling me how people release pets, to try and start Colonies out here.

I normally dont take things out of the wild, but I KNEW that this was waaaaayyy outta place. We are treating his shell for some breaks, and one puncture wound, other than that, he is perfectly healthy!

Very cool, its sad when people release "unwanted" pets into the wild or trying to take mother nature into their hands by creating a new "range" for the animal. Good luck with him .

    Re: Gulf Coast Box Turtle

My boss had found an Ornate Box turtle last month, that was crossing the road. They are not native to Minnesota (according to the DNR website anyways..) but are native to areas in Wisconsin. The DNR told him to just release it wherever he wished. It was a really pretty female, and I sort of wanted to keep it...

Definitely looks like a happy turtle!
