    Advise need, please (:

    Hello! Thanks for looking (:

I just need a few bits of advise please (:

Firstly, I have a 300w microclimate thermostat that seems to be far more accurate than my mat stats on other tanks, but it seems to reach the 92.5F and then drop down to 84.6F and then it goes back up and down again, it stays at 92.5F for about 20mins then drops to 84.6F and stays there for about 5mins.. IS this ok?

Also, im feeding her one 50gram mouse or rat everyweek, is this ok? She's pure muscle.

Temp spikes and drops like that are never healthy for any snake. What type of heating device are you using? It could be that you're maxing out the wattage when the heating device is at full power and thats causing the t-stat to drop it down like that.

Couldn't say without seeing the snake but the general rule of thumb is to feed prey that is 1-1.5 times the width of your snake at the widest point.

Can you post some pictures of your snake and the enclosure?

I never heard of microclimate so I did some research on them, which model are you using? The dial types do not seem to have a differential setpoint say 1 or 2 degrees below or above your actual setpoint.

I don't have any pictures of her enclosure, but its a silver viv, ive owned her since she was a baby, she had stopped eating for 3 month and weighed hardly anything, however shes never refuced and now weighs like 850gram and pure muscle, not much fatty skin if any at all.. And she's on a habistat 12W brandnew heat-mat and the microclimate 300W is a stat that you can use mats on..

I don't know about your thermostat.. but for feeding just generally feed the same size as the largest point on the body. A little bigger or smaller won't do any harm, but that's the main rule of thumb.

    Good luck!

Ive give her a habistat now and its worked great, 91F.

Also, shes about 2ft long and does seem a lot thicker than the 50gram mice im feeding her, but they seem to go down well.. What should i do? Upgrade to like 100gram? It just seems abit big for her head to handle :/ I know id feel uncomfortable eating something that big if I was her size..

Is there not a chart? That tells you what size royal should eat what size mice? Theres the munson plan for cornsnakes..

I'd be feeding her about an 80g rat or mouse multiples that equal about 80g. Giving her a 100g prey size is a little large and could disrupt her feeding response and lead to refusals. Even my biggest girls (they are about 1600-1700g) get an 80g rat each week.

I've never heard of a 50 gram mouse though.. most mice are between 18-25g in my experience.
Are you feeding ASFs and don't know it maybe?
