He seems healthy in every other way. Never misses a meal. Just no shed yet.

A smile appeared on my face when I came across this thread a few minutes ago

Re: Bad shed? No problem.
I love the wash cloth idea - my hands / the room / the bin / the snake are always covered in bits of shed snake skin afterwards and this would help keep it all in one place!

Re: Bad shed? No problem.
My BP recently shedded fine but some of the shed on her head hasn't come off. How do I proceed to remove that? She hates it when I touch her head much less with a cloth of any kind . Her eyes and nostrils are fine, it is about half of the top of her head.

Just ' feed' it through a very damp towel repeatedly . That way you don't touch it's head as it does that itself as it crawls through the damp towel. Make sure it's a rough textured towel.
I would give it a 20 minute soak first but many in this forum seem to frown upon any kind of soaking ..., even though they provide huge bowls of water for them to soak in

I wish I had read this last week when my baby BP was having a bad shed. I soak him weekly anyway, but I didn't want to bother him during his shed.
I ended up soaking him anyways and I did notice that he was much happier afterward. I will try throwing in a towel with him the next time he has a bad shed.

Re: Bad shed? No problem.
Its more than just leaving a towel in with him...... You have a wet or damp , rough textured towel handy after the soak and feed him through it repeatedly so he's constantly wriggling through it . Apply gentle pressure .m

I am already going to be hypocrite. I said any advice was going to be patience. I think a snake's home should have something quite coarse for them to rub against. The hide, the water bowl, a fake vine... something. I placed a green heavy duty rinsed but unused pot scrubber in my BPs tank. I have noticed him moving across it, rubbing his head on it and even rolling on it while in a ball. He does not have any skin issues, no mites, has been healthy for 2.5 years.
My neighbour bought a large male BP last summer and the cage this snake has been in for years. The cage is made of plywood and a screen top. He doesn't have a hygrometer in the cage and I don't know of any sheds that were in 1 piece and the snake's eyes are so cloudy, they look white and not black. Not good, I know that. My neighbour just won't listen about trying to up the humidity, soaking or even a hygrometer to know what the humidity is.
