    New rack

I built this rack from wood that was lying around in the garage. I know it's crooked, but I just made it because I had nothing to do.

The top level is two 6 quart tubs for nursing mothers

The 2nd and 3rd levels are 16 quart tubs for the breeders

The bottom tub is a 32 quart tub for weanlings to feeders or future breeders

Come here little guy. You're awfully cute and fluffy but unfortunately for you, you're made of meat

    Re: New rack

I have had 4 rats fit comfortably in a 16 qt. It's what I've been using the past few months since tearing down my old rack.

I don't let my females get too big. After 2-3 litters, they're as good as done for me.

I don't even mess with mice or ASF's anymore. They're too cannibalistic.

    Re: New rack

nursing mothers alone can do purfectley fine in that small of tubs i have seen it, but a freedom breeder, the tubs are almost the same size though

as for the 32 quarts, i have a friend that built a rack for them since he had tons of those tubs and now has to build another because those plastic ledges in the front and back are a chew toy

    Re: New rack

    You must have TINY rats!

I could JUST fit a female rat in a 6 quart, and I MIGHT be able to put a male and female in a 16 qt, but that's just wrong to me. How can you even think that's really humane in something that size?

    Re: New rack

RD keeps is nursing females in tubs that small..actually I think they have less head room than that. I personally wouldn't keep them in something that small either.

Yeap, and I don't agree with how RD keeps them in mouse breeder tubs either.

Actually, while those are only 3 inches tall (good grief, thats sick) they are 21 inches long and 9 inches wide. I always thought they looked like they were laying down all the time, and that's pretty much what's happening.
