My mother recently gave me two hanging shelf systems to put in my closet after hearing me complain about being cramped in my room.
I was really excited, got home, opened it up and greeted by a strong smell of cedar. Sure enough, there are little decorative bits of cedar on each shelf, holding the fabric straight.
My question is - is cedar outside of my ball python's enclosure (about 4 feet from her tub) going to hurt her, or should I be more worried about direct contact than a little bit of fume from across the room? If it is something to worry about - would coating them in a polyurethane be enough to conceal the fumes (would hate to just throw the bits out, they look really nice in there)?
