Re: Cleaning solution?
Just do 1 part bleach to 9 parts water.... So, if you're going to use a tablespoon of bleach, add 9 tablespoons of water and you should be good to go!

I'd be leary of using Listerine. Not that it can't be used but there are so many different versions and types with so many different chemicals. If your not 100% sure you got it all off the plastic it might have some adverse effects.
The cost of it would be a little to high also I can buy a gallon of chlorhexidine that will make 500 gallons of cleaning solution for 20.00

Re: Cleaning solution?
I was always taught 1 part water to 10 parts bleach does the trick and that's what I use to disinfect enclosures. That's not all though. First we scrub them in the bathtub with hot water and dishsoap so any corners, edges, whatever get really clean. At the same time I do the water dishes and so forth in the sink the same way. After rinsing all that to make sure the soap is gone, I fill the tub with the 1 to 10 parts water/bleach solution, toss in the water dish to soak in there as well and let it all set for a good 20 minutes or so (hottest water possible). Then it's on to repeated rinsing with running cold water and a drying with paper towels. Sometimes I do the soap and water first, sometimes I do it second - either way it's both - then the repeated clear water rinsing. Seems to do the job really well.
Then I get to clean the bathroom!

Re: Cleaning solution?
I do the same thing Joanna does, except I use a paint sprayer of chlorahexadine solution after I soak and scrub everything in my tub.

Re: Cleaning solution?
What exactly are you spraying? Whatever it is, the bleach/water solution must be rinsed off afterwards (that's when the smell goes away, not while you are actually using it). Make sure no animals are around and also watch your eyes when working with any bleach product, even when diluted.
