Update on Sandy, our feverish dog
Well, we finally have an answer to what has been going on with Sandy. The vet just called with the results from the tick panel and it has been confirmed that she has Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever! She will start antibiotics today and continue them for 3 weeks! The vet said that she SHOULD, after completing the meds, be immuned to the disease. But, she won't rely too heavily on that.
We will see how it goes! Now we just have to try to get her to eat enough to take the meds because without food, it will only make her sick! We will know in about 6 months if all is okay!
Thank you again to all who helped me along the way!

Re: Update on Sandy, our feverish dog
Huh- from a tick, right? I believe my brother had that when he was really little and we were on vacation in Maine. He was *really* sick
I'm glad that the vet was able to pin this down for you. Good luck!

I couldn't agree with you more!
I didn't think that the ticks here in Florida carried RMSF but either I'm wrong or she got it before we adopted her. She was found in the streets in Georgia at 4 weeks old so who knows. All that matters is that she is being treated and hopefully cured!

Re: Update on Sandy, our feverish dog
Oh Tanya I'm so glad to read they finally figured out what is wrong with your Sandy. I don't know a thing about this type of tick and what it can do to humans and animals but I'm glad at least now they have a diagnosis that they can do something to make Sandy well again or at least better than she is suffering these fevers.
