my geckos wont/dont shed
hi
i have 2 geckos a tokay and a golden.
they live in the exoterra 18x18x18 tank with a water fall and a rock they can hide in as well as a whole bunch of fake plants they hide in too. its about 85 in there all the time and the humidity varies from 65 to 89 (im having a tough time keeping it humid in there) they are about the same size both WC jueveniles. they eat about 24 to 36 crickets a week between the two of them, but they havent shed yet.
what am i doing wrong?
thanks crystal

Dont they eat their sheds?

Come here little guy. You're awfully cute and fluffy but unfortunately for you, you're made of meat

Re: my geckos wont/dont shed
Then maybe they are eating the sheds. Reptiles don't get bigger without shedding, and I believe the sheds average out to about once a month.
I'd wait until someone else with these geckos comes along. I'm in over my head, now.

AH I was just reminded! When I used to have a leopard gecko, it would in fact eat its shed. They pull it off with their mouths and ate it as it went along.
Occasionally you may find small pieces on the floor of the tank, but other than that you may never see it. I was lucky to see it ONCE out of the 3 years I had him.
I'm assuming with other types of geckos they do the same thing. Snakes aren't as.. capable of doing so but I remember being told that they all did that.
They've probably shed and you were asleep (considering they're more active at night as well).
Edit: Also, it's not very ew considering the amount of nutrition they receive! :]

Re: my geckos wont/dont shed
Yes they do eat their sheds! I have had my Tokay since december and have not once seen her shed. If they are growing and eating they are fine. Being nocturnal you probably won't see them shed. In fact it was almost 9 months before I saw my crestie shed.
Also are they housed together?
If they are I would highly recommend separating them. Reptiles don't really like having cage mates, and simply tolerate them, it can cause stress. Especially housing two different species.
You may also want to consider the aggressiveness of the Tokay, and their adult size. May make a snack out of the the other gecko at some point!

Goldens do eat their sheds - I've watched mine do it a number of times.
I'm not sure about the tokays tho...
Do you have a golden & a tokay in the same enclosure? They are both very territorial - I would be afraid one might kill the other. Just my opinion tho...

They do eat their sheds. I would also recommend separating them. Tokays especially can be aggressive towards cagemates, and they are different species. You could do 2 of the smaller exo vivs maybe?
