    Should I wean?

I have a quick question about when to wean my mice. I lost the paper that had the birth dates written down , so now I am unsure about when to wean. There are 3 litters together, and one in another tub. The smaller, single litter is about a week younger than the rest, but is about the same size. I think it is because the moms ate some of the pinkies, so there were only 4 little mice to 2 mom's. Anyway, all of them have had there eyes open for at least a few days, some of them nearly a week. They look like tiny tiny adult mice. Would it be good to wean now, or should I give them more time to make sure they grow up quick. I am planning on separating them into two tubs, one male and one female, with the females staying with the mom's in the larger tub.

Let me know if you need more info, or some pics.

    Thanks a lot

    Re: Should I wean?

Its a little too early, I like the wean mine once i can sex them. Ive never once had a pregnant sibling and it worked out great! Keep them in with their parents as long as possible, I weaned about 20 to soon and a lot of them died early and the rest took too long to grow

Come here little guy. You're awfully cute and fluffy but unfortunately for you, you're made of meat

    Re: Should I wean?

I think about 3-4 weeks, though I don't usually go by days but by looks. It sounds like yours are about hopper sized which is too early. I wean when they look just like the adults, just a little bit smaller. Hoppers have kind of a compact look and their body length isn't very long. When they're bodies have stretched out to an adult length but they're still smaller then adults they're ready for weaning.

    Re: Should I wean?

I dont have too much of a problem sexing the adults, but now that I dont have any males to compare to for sure, does anyone have a link to a good pictorial guide for sexing the weanlings? Mice dont seem to have the big scrotums that are insanely obvious like in rats, I tend to sex more on the distance from the butt to the genitalia. Any help here is welcome too, thanks.
