    Climbing and Burrowing

I've heard before that male BPs like to climb more than females. Is this true? I'm kind of starting to believe it, seeing as my one male BP is always climbing in his tree and reptile hammock. Also, every morning when i get up and check his tank he has, without fail, created an entire underground tunnel system underneath his aspen. Is this normal?! I've just never seen or heard of any other BP doing this; i've also heard that BPs DON'T like to climb. Did i get a weird one?

is your snake out and about all the time? If he is then hes not happy and you most likely have a husbandry issue... If hes only out at night and early morning then that seems normal... the climbing and what not all depends on the snake... some of mine climb all over and then others dont move too much... all depends on the snake.

    Re: Climbing and Burrowing

While snakes do seem to behave a little differently from one another, it is also true that males tend to climb (though still being terrestrial) more than females. Evidence for this is found in the different parasites in wild male and female ball pythons. I have posted and cited this information somewhere else on the forum but can cite it again if needed.
So, yes, males tend to climb more than females.

Oh no, he's a very happy boy. It's only at night and early morning that he's active. And Starmom, thanks for the definite answer

    My vote is "yes."

This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.

    Re: Climbing and Burrowing

My male doesn't climb at all - my female is the climber.
My male burrows and I have yet to see my female do it....

    Re: Climbing and Burrowing

My males love to burrow in their aspen, although it seems like they do it more just before a shed.

    Re: Climbing and Burrowing

My balls of both sexes occasionally burrow in aspen. I had never noticed it to be connected to a shed but now I will be watching.
