    How about Ultrasound systems?

    HEllo

I see some people that offers ultrasound systems for use in ball python breeding. Anyone know what can we do with an ultrasound system and if it's interesting to invert in this?

    Thanks!

You can use it to see if a female is developing follicles and to measure their size... from that info you can guess when she is going to ovulate, and then you can use it to see the eggs.

    Re: How about Ultrasound systems?

I've used an ultrasound for the past few years to assist in my breeding. It is my opinion that an ultrasound machine is very informative, but doesn't really make your breeding more successful. If you really want to know to know how many eggs your girl will have, wait till their laid and then count them!

The one area I think that an ultrasound can really change breeding results is when you are trying to maximize a male to an un-godly number of females. That's just not something I've ever really tied to do.

Justin...Why is this? My guess is that you are using the Ultra sound to look for sperm plugs in the male so you rotate him faster (ie. as soon as new plugs form?)...just curious.

    Re: How about Ultrasound systems?

i talked to a breeder in colorado who bought a used ultrasound on ebay and is averging 12 clutches per male.instead of multiply locks she is getting gravid females from 3-4 locks at the right time.

another advantage is that females who develop large number of follicles can be paired with a higher value male.it seems like a good investment if your breeding for business but expensive if your a hobbist.have fun !

Never used one myself, but I think you check the girls, not the boys. Then, only put him in with the ladies when their follicles are at the right size to be the most receptive to him. That way he doesnt breed the same girl 10 times, since she only gets pregnant once.

    Hope that made sense.

I have one, and that's exactly how it's used (when I have time to use it).
