Rescued!

I have acquired the neglected snake!

Last night I went over the my friends house to see what kind of condition the snake was in, and ended up bringing it home! I had to make a late night run to Wal-Mart to get a new tub and some other misc. items, and he is currently getting used to his new and improved setup.

He is currently in QT on the opposite end of the house from my other BP. His skin looks quite good, he was given a luke-warm bath by my friend before I got there. I haven't really noticed him holding his mouth open, hissing, or wheezing. I have noticed that his head seems to "wobble" from side to side when he picks it up off of the ground to far. I don't really know what that means. I'll be picking up the last few things I need for him today, and perfect his setup later tonight!

to anyone reading this....is the wobbly head something to be concerned about? I'm interested in finding a good resource for warning signs of a sick snake, any suggestions?

I would keep it far away from your other snakes and practice strict quarantine.

So ... what do you mean by wobbly head? There are some large concerns for wobble heads, but to what degree is the wobbling?

It's kind of hard to describe, and we've only briefly monitored him so far. When he raises his head/neck off of the ground it sort of sways side to side. It looks like he is too weak to have the type body control that a healthy snake has. I'm not saying that he is weak, because he held onto my arm quite well while moving him. I'll try to observe more about him after I get home tonight and get an updated post up.

Well its when he lifts his head and stretches out a bit...almost as if he doesn't have the energy to keep it stiff. Direction changes from up and down to side to side to kind of a circular motion. His tongue is still flicking but it is at a slower speed than our other BP.

When it is feeding day for my bp he sits with his head up and is very wobbly because he is looking for dinner and stressed that it is not in his tank yet. As soon as I feed him hes calm and poised again. Mind you my bp's "wobble" is not intense, but it is noticable. I can't say that there is nothing wrong with the rescue, but it could be something like this.

I have noticed my other BP Slyder doing it, but it is very rare. The thing that worries me, but I haven't seen myself yet, is that my friend said he was holding his mouth open for a bit. I'm going to be keeping a close eye on him for this also.
