What size Bins for My Rack??

Well It is time...I am going to change from my Big glass tanks to a rack. Currently I have a Ball and a 5 1/2 foor RTB. I wanted to make a rack that has enough space for maybe 4 BP tubs and maybe 2 Boa Bins. I am curious what the best size bins for keeping these two kinds of snakes are. I would love to see pics of anyones custom racks that you guys have built and use. I am going to making this myself and would appreciate any tips. Thanks in Advance.

Re: What size Bins for My Rack??

Well, Balls and Boas have different temperature requirements. Ball Pythons like it a bit hotter(92-94 warm, 82-84 cool) and boas 88-90 warm, 78-80 cool. For the boas, you could probably use the 41qt sterilite underbed boxes. They have good floor space, but it wouldn't last very long. Some 4x2 cages would work well and they aren't too expensive. For the Balls, it all depends on how big the snakes are. For juvies and shy, small adults, I use 15qt tubs. For adult males and sub-adult to small adult females, I use 32qt tubs. For BIG girls, they get 41qt tubs. Hatchlings get 6qt shoeboxes up until they are about 400g.

Re: What size Bins for My Rack??

SatanicIntention gave you some good info. I keep 3 of my boas (ranging in size from 4'-6') in the 4'x2' cages from RBI and they have tons of space to move around, and they only cost about as much as 2 glass 50-60gal terrariums would cost, its worth it though because they look nice and are so much easier to maintain/move than glass terrariums.

I did have a CB-70 rack (30.6 qt. tubs) I used to keep the balls in and it gave my adult male and 2 juvies plenty of room. I now keep my balls in the 4'x2' cages as well, as its easy for me to stack them all up (balls get some hides in their cages because of the size, they do well in them and eat every week for me!).

You might want to check with the boa section of the forum for more info on the tubs they use, I know some people keep their boas in tubs and it seems to work out well for them. You could also check out the caging section of the forum if you're planning on making your own rack or want more suggestions.
