Balls with attitude
Anyone out there have a ball python with some serious nippy attitude?
I just got one that just does not seem to like me? I almost got my face in her mouth tonight. I'm not going to lie, it kind of makes me like her a lot. She just seems like a little project to work with, she's an 07.
I know there's other people out there with this problem, will she calm down over time by handling her?

My first thought would be that she needs to be left alone for awhile.

Re: Balls with attitude
yeah i have the same problem with a couple of balls. one is an 07 100%het albino male that is always striking, he is getting traded for a 100%het albino girl cuz i already got an albino male and two now three het girls. the other is a 100%het for vpi axanthic female that has always been a beotch since we got her. tried to handle her but has not helped. and has stopped eating for the most part also.but has not been bred i might sell her this year cuz i'm tired of dealing with her.

Re: Balls with attitude
Trevor I know from talking to you that you've only had her a short time and she is an 07. Just remember this isn't about an attitude or being nasty, it's about a snake being a snake and seeing to it's own best interests first - in other word instincts at work.
That snake hasn't the first clue you mean her well. She's little, she's in an unfamilar, new place, for her you could just as likely be a predator come to eat her up. It's completely normal for a snake to lash out in a defensive manner under those circumstances and I wouldn't worry about it at all at this point.
Just let her settle in properly, get a good solid feeding program going and down the road a bit you can work with her on good handling experiences.

Re: Balls with attitude
Each snake is different... some are overly defensive and some aren't. I haven't had a lot of luck taming down my one pissy girl. She's an adult and she always hisses when you pick her up and sometimes strikes. Not sure what her deal is but I have learned to accept it.

From what i've been reading, it seems as if the females are little meaner than the males?
That's usually how it is in the human world right?

females are only "meaner" than males when they are gravid or protecting their eggs, for the most part. other than that there is really no issue.
