    Mazuri 5663

I have been feeding Mazuri 5663 for my rats (it is the only Mazuri that is offered around here). I was looking at the protien level today and it is 23%. I was surprised as the "breeding f6" has only 16% I am getting some ASF's this weekend and wanted to feed them what I am feed my rats. Could the high protien be why my rats aren't producing as well?

I have a breeder near me who swears by Mazuri rodent diet. I'm not sure if that's the same number you have but he says it almost doubles the production of pinks.

Yes that is what is on the bag. I have never seen any of the f6, f9 or f11. I am willing to ask a local shop to order f9 or something if it will be better. All I have been reading is that 15-18% protien is good for rats. ALL the Mazuri is under 18% except this one...what is up with that???? I read where if you want 100% groth you feed 25% protien till weaning then taper off. Now my rats are not in a warm building so I was thinking of leaving them at the higher protien to help with them producing heat. But you can see I am at a loss. so any info will be great.

I think your train of thought is good, and yes most breeders recommend a lower protein because of the problems with allergies, scratching and scabs. I think nursing mothers need the extra protien, but 23 seems a little high for my taste. Where are you located by chance? I know a lot of feed stores are able to order Purina, so they should be able to special order the 6F Oval pellets.
