Weird eating habits

I just wanted to ask this. I gave my BP its mouse and after he had killed it he pulled it into his hide and is just sitting there. What's he doing? It just seems odd. My corns just go right into eating them.

Give it some time. If nothing happens I'd take it away and dangle it in front of him so that he may strike again. My bp did this few times and after re-dangling the mouse 2-3 times he finally ate. Btw, I only offer F/T so I'm not sure if this would be advisable with live prey (or dead )

One of mine did that saturday. He killed it, started to eat it, and with about 3/4 of the mouse hanging out of his mouth, he retracted into his hide (the kill was pretty close to the hide, so he was never completely out).

After getting back in, he took a bit longer than normal to swallow, but all is well. I was surprised, because he typically ate outside the hide.

How long has yours had it in the hide?

He had it in there for about twenty minutes and I went off to do some cleaning up and I came back in about half an hour and he was half way done with eating it. Ten minutes after that the mouse was nowhere to be seen. He stayed in his hide the entire time he ate though. It was odd. It took him awhile to actually go after the mouse, and I scented the room for about 45 minutes prior to putting the mouse in the cage. Well, the important part is that he ate. YAY. now I can give him a good week to digest and hide. ^_^

You should be able to handle him after 48 hours or so. If you give him a week of non-handling every time you feed, you'll never get to handle him
