    retf stopped calling...

Whats up with that? They get a nicer, taller enclosure and they stopped calling! The plants are growing better, i even added more plant coverage (faux plants until my plants grow tall enough) and temps are a *bit* lower than before (currently 75.2 in top 1/4 of the tank, a bit cooler at the bottom) Do I need to add another source of heat to pull it up closer to 80's? I'm currently using a 2.0 UVB bulb as the hood to the exo-terra isnt made to support "heat" this bulb is omitting heat obviously but not as much as when i was using a 40w. So what do you think? Did they stop calling because of the change or tank, because of the change of heat, exc? They still look great, move around their tank in the evening, are eating well and pooing good too.. thoughts?

    Re: retf stopped calling...

I just put the "heat" lamp (aka 40w) approx 12" above the enclosure like i had it when they were in the 10gal long and the temps have gone up to 80.2 and rising.. now im afraid its going to be too hot. I do know that at least they will go down towards the bottom if they need to be cooler, i just want to make sure their temps are ideal.. why did i have to mix things up lol

    Re: retf stopped calling...

its not year round but for them to go from calling every night, most of the night to not at all.. thats what was concerning. the tank is back down to 74, the heat lamp was causing wayyy too much heat (86-87)

    Re: retf stopped calling...

I just today added more heat because the temps were lower than before.. since they moved into the new tank the temps have been colder, resulting in no calling. Not the other way around... I would think they need *more* heat to bring them back to where they were. Were running 75degrees currently with just the UVB bulb on but at the bottom of the tank its much cooler. I have thought about adding an UTH to the side of the tank or even under it if nessesary but i only have one rheostat that is keeping Camerons UTH at 91-93.. much too hot for the frogs.

that would make some appetizers not pets hahaha. sorry had to. what about those little 7w bulbs. i know Derek (dr. del) used some of them in his rack. that might give you some heat without goin overboard??

    Re: retf stopped calling...

ashley, they are probably just acclimating right now. they didn't call the first few days that you had them--they were settling into their new home. same thing now--just give them some time. you don't need to add the extra heat--if anything just a basking area of 80 degrees is all you need to give them, otherwise your temps are fine.

    Re: retf stopped calling...

thank you Emily, thats reassuring... Ill leave things the way they are if its ideal and that does make sense about them not calling now...

Pat, what are you talking about appetizers?
