    My Spider

and her deformity.. I purchased this little female at Daytona and had her shipped to Sarah's house as I normally do since I'm not home during the day. Sarah keeps her snakes the same way as I do, so I'm very comfortable sending them there for "camp" I just recently picked her(and two others who Sarah was keeping) up last Saturday since I FINALLY got moved into my apartment.

I never noticed anything when I first picked her out, but she was tiny and I never compared her to another hatchling of the same size. It was only when she was more filled out, that I noticed that she has a pretty big problem. Her neck is extremely short, she has abnormal scalation on her neck, and I felt along her spine and found a small kink.. She has an underbite, and her bottom jaw is pointed. She also can't fully extend her tongue(just the 2 forks come out). She does eat, but prefers smaller mice such as hoppers. Here are a few comparison pictures to show the big difference.

wow!! have you contacted the breeder? had you hand selected her? could it be something that happened to her since you picked her or perhaps something you over looked?

Poor girl. But she is very pretty and I know you'll give her a good home. Does she spin or wobble at all?

It's very slight, but she does wobble a bit. I just wish her goofy tongue was normal, then maybe she'd eat something bigger than a freakin' hopper mouse.

    Re: My Spider

Woah. I think that she is a beautiful snake.. but I would contact her breeder about her problems. They should have known about something like this before selling her, and it seems dishonest IMO that they did not disclose her defects. I can definately see the indentation in her neck scales; not normal. I hope that she does well though and eats well for you though.

    Re: My Spider

Well, I offered her food last night, even after she had been molested with handling the past few days, and she took not 1 hopper, but 3 That short neck of hers seems to help her and not hinder her, as she doesn't have excess neck to get in the way, LOL. She's so cute.. I'll probably rename her L or Elle, since she has an "L" on her forehead. I can save Loranth for someone else

Hey Jo! Glad you went with a spider, but I'm sorry for her deformities. I must say that she is still very much eye candy. In fact i don't think i have seen a spider that wasn't. We all know that you will take the best care of her that you can. She couldn't be in better hands. She's eating which is a plus, I'm not sure if she went #2 yet for you, but that will seal it! Good luck Jo, keep us posted!

I'm Becky, Tyree Jo is Frankykeno, remember? It's not the weekend yet

And yes, I'm sorry too about her deformities, but hopefully she'll grow out of it and will grow into a beautiful girl.
