    Post cage set ups

    hi i just got my sav monitor yesterday this is my first lizard i have no experience with them but i have alot of experience with snakes
    i hear dirt is a good grounding for them cuz they like to dig burrows is this true ? right now i have him on newspaper but i will change it soon i have a heat pad and a light both on seperate sides
    i have him in a 30 gallon tank he has 2 hides and 1 water bowl and fake plants and some moss that good can you post pics of you monitors and thier cages thanks i would appriciate it alot

    when i had my monitor. i used repti-bark. dont know if its good or not, but he loved it

    I use a mixture of topsoil/sand and when available throw some leaves on top. They do like to burrow and if you provide them with those flat bark strips and hollow bark logs buried in their substrate they will use them. It remains more humid inside the soil and is good for when they are shedding. Mine is shedding at the moment and is spending more time in the cool end of his viv where the humidity is higher.

    great advice.

    monitors like to dig, don't use reptibark
