    Re: feeding on aspen?

I have two snakes that I feed in their enclosures with aspen bedding. For some reason those two get freaked out by getting moved into a tub and will not eat.

I just dry the mouse off really good so that no bedding sticks to it and I haven't had a problem yet. Sometime if they are hanging out by their water bowl I will pull the bowl out. I have had them dunk a mouse in the water bowl and straight onto the aspen. Then you have to pick the aspen off while they are eating it. (Not Fun)

Some people will say to never feed on the substrate, some will say they have always done it. In the famous words of BT on reptile radio. Do what works for you!

I cannot remember, where I found this tip, but I've been using it for my adult King since she refuses to eat in the tub. I watched Cookie drag her f/t mouse through the bedding and was worried sick for days about her having swallowed some of it (I wasn't sure), so I went and checked several boards to find ideas. The paper plates didn't work, cause Cookie would just grab the prey and take of with it. Then I came across a thread suggesting plastic canvas. Just remove some of the items from the enclosure prior to feeding time and put the mat down with the prey atop. Works like a charm! The canvas is easy to clean and cheap to buy at Walmart. It's that stuff that they use for cross-stitching and you can cut it to the size you need.
