Re: crazy...
No sadly most people have very little common sense especially when it comes to interactions with wild things. They don't realize in that case if the mother of the cub does what nature intends and defends her cub, she will lose her life for their stupidity in wanting a picture up close.
I lived a lot of my life in the far north of Canada with both grizzlies and black bears. It was incredibly frustrating for me to have neighbours who didn't care and refused to secure their garbage properly. This encouraged "problem bears" and they only got one shot at relocation, after that they (and if it was a nursing sow, her cubs too) were put down. All because some uncaring person was too lazy to build a proper bear secure garbage enclosure.
We had one idiot neighbour in Faro, Yukon who fed his dogs out in the back yard, often leaving dog kibble and scraps left over out there. Of course he ended up with young, recently weaned grizzlies visiting his darn yard! Next door to me! Doesn't take any brains to know that's a forgone conclusion when your backyard borders thousands of acres of wild country. Some people are just too stupid.

Re: crazy...
Yep we used to have those idjits up in the Yukon too Christie. The grizzlies would come to the big dump to root around, they'd scuffle and fight. It was quite a sight and one that the townsfolk would sometimes watch from the safety of their vehicles (okay you really do get that bored in the Yukon LOL). We'd have these idiots that would get out of their vehicles and stand around the dump taking pictures! Too stupid to understand that worked up adult grizzlies, in close proximity to each other, with a food source to fight over, with the amazing speed these big bears can put on for short distances....might be a TAD dangerous for a puny human and his Nikon to be near.
You know sometimes you really wished natural selection worked better.
