    Question Reading up on breeding...

So since I'm following Adam's breeding calander, I'm now getting more and more in to reading up on breeding BP's. I was looking around on here for the answer, but haven't been able to find it. Sadly I think I should know this.... but I don't.

    So my question is....
Do you place males in the females tub?
    Or
Do you place the females in the males tub?
    Or
    Does it not matter?

    Thanks!

I've found stronger breeding response by placing males into females enclosures .... 99.9% of the time, that's what I do ... but for pairings that aren't showing results, I mix things up and try all kinds of stuff until I get a result ... if that means putting a female or several females into a males tub, that's what I do.

I think it depends on the snakes sometimes. If one is much more shy, you may want to keep that one in its cage and introduce the other so it will feel more secure. But Last year I mostly did male into females cage, and I plan to do that for the most part again, but I might switch em around if thats what I need to get them going.

Another question - do you remove hides?

    Re: Reading up on breeding...

Yes, once I start pairing up, the females hide comes out until eggs are laid. Boys keep their hide unless I put a female into their tub (then the hide only comes out for the duration of the pairing) ... also, if I have a shy feeder that needs a hide, it will go back in on feeding day ... but it's usually not necessary because during breeding season when I'm cycling temps I feed even smaller meals than I do the rest of the year (uh oh, saying that I feed even smaller than a small rat to an adult female? i must be attacking people who feed large meals again )

    Hope this helps.

Yes it does. And I was asking about the hides for when the two are together.

I assume you leave the water dish in with them? If so, do you find that by having two together, that they turn it over more, or are your PVC couplers pretty good at keeping them upright?

    Re: Reading up on breeding...

Hides are out for the entire season, not just when they're paired up ... if I had just a couple of females I'd probably put the hides back in when the female is by herself (at least until the early spring) ... but because I'm putting 35- 40 males in with girls every time I pairing it just gets to difficult to manage all of those hides coming in and out every couple of days. They're usually so focused on breeding that it doesn't matter much anyway.
