Re: Glass vs Acrylic
i've always liked glass doors better than acrylic. imo more durable and doesn't scratch near as easy.
if your not lifting the cages much, weight shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Glass vs Acrylic
Thanks! I suspected as much, but it never hurts to double check. We'll be going with glass.

Re: Glass vs Acrylic
If I was buying a viv, I'd probably go with glass. However, when I made all of my custom vivs I went with acrylic because it was easier to implement because you could easily drill or saw it. I have a couple that are several years old and look brand new - no scratches or discoloration.

Re: Glass vs Acrylic
I've made custom cages with both glass and plastic sliding doors. The glass looks much better.Plastic scratches too easy.

Re: Glass vs Acrylic
this is the same age-old debate we have in the aquarium world as well.
plastic scratches easy, but if you know how to care for it properly you can keep it looking like new for many years.
Glass can break or chip
plastic is a better thermal insulator...though whether it would matter much in the cage design overall I have no idea.

Re: Glass vs Acrylic
Just to clarify, we're getting a pair of Terrestrial cages from http://www.animalplastics.com/ so it's really just the sliding doors it applies to, not a whole viv per ce. We decided to go with glass, mostly because it sounds like it'll do better on the long term.

Re: Glass vs Acrylic
I think that glass is the best choice. I have plexi doors on my BCI cage for the time being. "Time being" about 2 years now, lol.. it is always one of those things we'll "get around to" doing; replacing them with glass! But the plexi does bend, and it scratches if you look at it wrong, it seems.
