Thinking of buying a blood
I've read the care sheet here but I'd like to know where else I should be looking for info. I'm not getting one any time soon (at least a year away) but I always research the hell out of something before purchasing anyway. I already have a bp and a bci and the bloods are just gorgeous. I just wonder if there's anything I should really be looking into. I have no idea how much they cost and I don't know of any good Canadian breeders. Also, I'd like some input, obviously, from people who already own bloods.
Oh, and I almost forgot, which type of blood has the deep red coloring?

Re: Thinking of buying a blood
from my experience, they require a bit more care when it comes to temps and umidity.
i dont know any canadian breeders but im sure other people on the forum might.
from what i know, P.brongersmai which is the :common" blood, gets the deep red coloring as an ADULT. mine's still a baby so it still has brownish with yellow bands.

NERD has a nice read on Bloods.

They are a wonderful snake to have if you are willing to deal with a defensive and shy Python. They can be very skiddish especially when young but with proper care they do turn out nicely. The reward is huge. Mine was a bit of a maniac when I first got him and he needed a full 2 weeks to settle in to his new home. After that he took to eating right away and he isn't quick to bite. As time passes he continues to calm down more and more. Mine is about a year and a half old and I've had him for a little less than a year so I'm still going through the paces.
The biggest piece of advice people here give is to keep a young Blood in a small enclosure to help them feel secure and safe. Too big of a cage can stress them out and cause many problems.
Keeping the right level of humidity is extremely important whether the snake is in shed or not and of course temps. There is not much room for error with these guys.

Re: Thinking of buying a blood
I have two, both acquired as babies, and they are not skittish at all. Mellowest snakes I've ever met. They are sooo much more docile and outgoing than my balls. Roana is going on a year now, and just as sweet as the day she got here. Rojaz is still new, but has had no problems. Great eaters too!
