More Egypt inspired art: Thoth
I call this one Thoth: The Word. Egyptian Ibis headed deity of Wisdom, Language, and in some myths Creation as well. Even though he's the god of language, you never see him with his beak open so I really liked this idea. I might change/get rid of his name in the pic still, but here he is anywhos. I love the creation myth of Thoth creating himself and the rest of existence through the invention of language.. The Word. So that's what I based this interpretation of him on.
I'm currently finishing up a pencil of Shanti #2, and a few more lined up including a WoW character before I do any more Egyptian pieces, but I am planning on a scorpion bodied Selket down the road.

Very good. I like the way the universe is held . Nice detail to the face!

Great pic.
Thoth was the name of a guy on "Americas got Talent" this year.

Super cool. I think that you should design a Tarot deck!

Re: More Egypt inspired art: Thoth
Thanks guys! He doesn't look as great on the shirts as I'd hoped, it's easy to lose the detail on his face, but man he looks great on the mugs, magnets, and prints. Sacred Ibis...es? Ibi? In any case, they're amazing birds and I enjoyed researching them for this.
And I'd actually heard of the Thoth guy before he was on that show, Freakie, he's a friend of somebody on my friend's list on Livejournal. Small world, lol!
I've actually been thinking of doing a Medusa tarot deck, it'd take a long while but totally be worth it I think. There was a time when I wanted to collect tarot decks, there's so much beautiful art there and so many styles! A Medusa based one would be awesome and right up my alley. *knocks on wood!*
Oh! And I forgot to mention, I think! But someone asked permission to use my designs for some bodypainting in her own style, to which I of course happily agreed. She already did my Shanti piece. Check it out! (don't worry, no nudity behind link)

Re: More Egypt inspired art: Thoth
I always thought Thoth looked creepy with his beak closed (in the heiroglyphs) yours is really pretty though!
