    BP burn pics?

Do any of you happen to have pics of BP's with belly burns from heating elements (heat rocks, unregulated heat pads, etc)? I'm trying to prove to someone that these snakes DON'T know when to get away from something that is hot and that's why it's OUR job to regulate these items and keep them at stable temps to avoid burns and overheating. Thanks in advance...

Looks like a burn to me...but I'm no vet. Of course...the vet that saw the snake said it looked like a burn as well.

Jen, here's another thread with excellent illustrations of what can happen to a snake with a bad heat source:

    Re: BP burn pics?

It looks like a burn to me, and obviously the person's vet agreed that it was an infected burn. What was your opinion on it James?

Judy, I remember seeing those first few pics, I had been trying to find those as well. Thank you! It's like every day someone appears that thinks it's a waste of money to buy a thermostat or thermometers when the temp "feels" OK to them. Words just are not doing enough anymore, I have to add graphic pictures to my threads to get the point across.

    Re: BP burn pics?

Hope this pic of one of our snakes might help.

Here's what we know and what our vet surmises of this injury. We found her like this in a pet store, a recently abandoned ex-pet snake left at the pet store. Our herp vet believes (as we do) that this is an old injury where Orlah was housed with a bare, hot bulb as her only heat source. She would have coiled too near it and when she moved away, her dorsal skin was literally stripped away from her. Our vet explained this would have been a horrific injury, very painful for poor Orlah and quite possibly could have been a fatal injury due to subsequent infection. Side note, our vet is the only vet that sees snakes in that area and she'd never treated Orlah.

Orlah survived and today is a lovely mature female who seems to have no problems, however, it's terribly unfair that she has to be this scarred because some human didn't know how to care for her properly. The scar is actually worse than pictured as some of it isn't seen in this photo due to her body position.
