My friend had to go away for a funeral until Wednesday. She asked me to take care of her beardies for her. There are two and they are housed in a 6 by 3' wooden cage that I can easily crawl into and sit comfortably. It is equipped with two heat lamps which keep the basking spot around 99 (or at least thats what it read when I got there this afternoon). Thier substrate is sand and they are fed crickets and mealworms with the heads cut off.
I have not cared for a large beardie in a long time and my friend said that the dragons go through 60 crickets a day. And these are not pinhead crickets. She told me to use the crickets they had there (100) and left me some money to buy more when needed. The beardies also eat clovers and dandelions. There were around 20-30 crickets in the cage when I got there, so I threw in about 10 and sifted the sand a bit to clean it.
Is there anything else I should be doing? I'm going back over there tonight to cut the lights off and to change the water.
