    Snake Gym

    Hello everybody.

So so yesterday I went to this badass bird store and I was really digging their bird gyms they have. So I started working on one for my carpet pythons and I have a couple screws poking out the slightest bit at about 1/8".

How would you cover the tips of the screws? I was thinking of wrapping electrical tape around it nice and tight, but everybody says to keep tape away from snakes. I was thinking of just scrapping this, since it only cost me about $40

Sorry if this is the wrong section or if I missed another post that answered my question

Maybe you could caulk it or use hot glue to cover them

Use a dremel tool and grind it down smooth, then silicone/chaulk for good measure.

The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

Thanks for the replies everybody. Looks like grinding them down is the way to go.

And it's not the pointy side sticking out, it's just the head of the screws that aren't flush with the wood. Should've made that clearer haha.

    Thanks again you guys

countersink the head. if you don't have a countersink tool, you can use a drill bit that is the size of the head of the screw. you will only need to countersink it as far as the height of the head of the screw.

A lot of screws are made of fairly soft metal.

I sometimes cut the ends off screws that are too long and use them that way. If I have to take off half an inch, or so, I'll use bolt cutters, but for just the tip, maybe try some flush cut pliers, and a file. I consider that good enough for rabbits and chickens, but for a snake, I'd probably add a dab of silicone caulk, or some E6000 glue (what I happen to have around here), just to be absolutely sure the cut end isn't sharp.

I have to agree, either either back out a screw, take it to Lowes or Home Depot, and grab a 1/4-1/2 smaller screw and replace them all.

You could also grind down the screw and maybe back it out a 1/4 of a turn to bury the end. Then fill with hot glue (which is my goto!) or for a more lasting solution get some epoxi and use it to cover he sharp ends of the screw.
