substrate question
I have a Curlyhair tarantula (Brachypelma albopilosum). He's about four years old and I'm not sure how big..
Anyway, he's moving and I'm out of soil, but I have some coconut husk from before the snakes switched to paper towels. Would this be okay to use? It would hold in the humidity well.
Thanks.

Re: substrate question
No, don't use it. I have a friend who had run out of substrate and used that and when the T moulted it sucked out the moisture from the T and it died.
Use organic potting soil or peat.

Coconut fiber is used by many hobbyists without any problems. If the tarantula died post molt, it was most likely due to prior dehydration or other molt problems...coconut fiber will *not* be able to "suck" the moisture out of a tarantula.
So anyway, as to the question, yes you can by all means use coconut fiber, just don't keep it moist and make sure there is enough of it for the spider to burrow in.
B. albo is *not* a moisture loving species.
