    Re: Really Stupid Question

It when you're out in nature ('the wild') and find reptiles and amphibians. It's like field research.... you're out in the thick of it. Does that make any sense...

    Re: Really Stupid Question

Here's a simple explanation of what folks here usually mean when they say they are field herping: Its basically going outdoors for the sheer joy of being out and seeing what native species one can stumble upon. Usually looking but not touching and causing as little disruption to wild animals as possible. Many people like to take back everything they find...in the form of pictures

    Re: Really Stupid Question

I love field herping, I have done research projects in Costa Rica, illinois, Missouri, and a bunch here in CT. Field herping is when you go out into the field (the woods and nature like said b4) and see what you can find. Like if you go out to a pond and catch some local frogs just to look at em or what not, thats field herping. Sometimes people get together in groups and travel to great herp filled locations to see what they can find. I do field herping here in CT as part of the Connecticut Amphibian Monitoring Project, where we monitor the populations of Amphibians in different sites in CT. Good stuff, you should look into getting involved in a local herp club and possibly meeting up with some people who enjoy field herping.

to wrap it up i would say, it is hiking through an area while seeing what you can catch. hope that helps!

Edit: a hair too slow good explanation tek!

    Re: Really Stupid Question

Sounds like fun. I might try it sometime. I live in Richmond, so not a whole lot of places to go other than parks or the outskirts of Richmond where the area is still undeveloped.

    Re: Really Stupid Question

look up a state forest or some place like that, and in VA be sure to turn over plenty of logs about the width of your hand and the length of your lower arm, you should be able to find some cool salamanders and even some snakes.
