    New Leo

OK, I just did something today that I HATE to do, I adopted an animal on impulse.

I went to Petco today to pick up some Crested Gecko Diet, and mentioned to the reptile person that I wanted to get a Leo one day. She said "oh, we have one in the back that's up for adoption - it lost its tail, so we can't sell it, would you like it?" Called Karl, because he really liked the Leo's in Daytona and asked him if I should get it. He gave the ok, and home I came and panicked! LOL

Thank you to Emily through talking me through everything I needed to get this little one set up. I think it's a girl, I can't see any of the anal spores at all, but she may be too young to see just yet.

From my quick study today, to me she looks like she's probably a month old? Would you guys agree?

This "free" gecko ended up costing me darn near $80 to get her set up correctly. Any critiques are welcome!

Enclosure as I'm waiting for temps to get set:

Here she is, less than impressed with me, as I had to soak her to get some stuck shed off her feet. And she also pooped on me, and Joanna's busy IMing me - do you have pictures yet? How about now? Now? Don't ever tell Joanna you got a new pet - she'll hound you for pictures! LOL

    And I'm out of here!

Awww and you even got her girlie paper towels! How cute! I couldn't have resisted either LOL. Hey I had to harrass you for pics inbetween feeding and running the pups outside, taking care of my own gecko, making dinner, bathing a child, helping him with homework and doing the reading/tucking into bed routine....it was a lot of work fitting in bugging you in IM girlie! Congrats on the new leo!

Oh forgot to ask....any name picked out yet?

Docker - that's a cute name. I know Karl is thinking of names too.

Anyone have any clue what color she may become as an adult?

Thanks John! Are the blue eyes normal? In your opinion, does she appear overall healthy? She's currently sleeping in her humid hide. I love that they can close their eyes!

    Re: New Leo

aawwww now isn't that just the cutest thing?! the photo of her disappearing into her humid hide is hilarious.

she is probably about a month old. you should be able to sex her soon, but you might have to use a jeweler's loupe or a magnifying glass to see any pores.

the blue areas on her head above her eyes are totally normal and will go away as she matures and gains more color.

she looks pretty good overall. could use a little fattening up but i'm sure that will take no time at all.

the black areas on her back will fade (when leos are born they have solid black areas so you can see that they have already started fading) and will either turn orangey (referred to as tangerine in leo speak) or just slightly darker yellow than the rest of her. the yellow areas will get brighter and darker.

her tail doesn't look bad at all. it will grow back in a bulb shape right there and might even be orange.

good luck with her and keep us up to date.
    - Emily

    Re: New Leo

Poor thing did NOT like me messing with her feet (for now I'll refer to her as a girl) and THEN, I'm refreshing food for the cresties, and Uncle Kracker has stuck shed on his feet.

I can just imagine work on Monday - "so, what did you do this weekend?"

"Me? Oh, I just spend the weekend getting stuck shed off of gecko feet"!

    LOL

Hey Emily, how much of her tail would you say is missing?
