green rat snakes? or red tailed green rat snakes?

anyone keep them? i think these are probably my new fave colubrid... almost remind me of a green mamba the way their scales look.

The remind me of my friend, Jaime's rough green snake...though the head on the green rat snake is differently shaped.

Re: green rat snakes? or red tailed green rat snakes?

I love Gonyosoma, they are beautiful and the green fading to red at the tail reminds me of some of the Trimeresurus species (some of my favorites ). Most imports don't acclimate well, and CB are extremely rare. A friend of mine was raising a 1.3 group that was sired by an imported albino male that never ate and died after the breeding season. They were putting on weight well for a while, then all went downhill fast. We weren't sure what had happened, but it happened fast, and no other snakes in his collection showed any sign of illness. They are awesome though and they were the first arboreal colubrid I looked at getting before we ended up trading for some Philodryas. I was even lucky enough to find a few in Thailand while I was there. Hopefully someone that has more hands-on experience with them will speak up.

yes, thank you... i guess i probably should have specified i was referring to Elaphe [Gonyosoma] oxycephala.
i can't really seem to find much info on them. most of the sites with any real accounts are in various european languages... typical
the only real info i've found is that they need very high humidity and only moderate temps (upper 70's)... but yes, hopefully someone will see this post and speak up

Re: green rat snakes? or red tailed green rat snakes?

Saw one at a reptile store the other day. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! and bonus: my snake wary bf liked them too! I left with a less expensive (but still very awesome) taiwan beauty snake, but they are definitely now on my list!
