BIG Mistake-I’m just kicking myself!
Darn it! Darn it! Darn it! Darn it! Darn it!!!
I feel so dumb! How could I have been so dumb! It was right there in front of me the whole time!
You want to know what happened? I installed the free trial version of Degei (great reptile husbandry program btw) and was trying to remember something about one of my adult females, so I went back digging through old e-mails and found what I was looking for. I decided to look at the pics of the two normal females and my pair of pastels that were attached in the old e-mail. The Pastels look a lot different now, but you could still tell them by their neck stripes...the male’s being the long one, the female’s being the short one. I looked at the "female’s" picture and for whatever reason looked at the name of the pic-"pastelmale.jpg". I was like "what? that looks like my female, not the male..." I looked at the other picture called "pastelfemale.jpg" and the pastel was the one with the long neck stripe!! I was like, "I can’t beleive this is happening!! That can’t be the female! It just can’t!" After owning them for over 7 months and never having someone sex them for me (I’m learning how to next week). When they arrived, the deli-cup with the longstriped-one was labled male and the female was the short striped one (which is what I’ve been going by for the past 7 months).
I’m really confused now!! I’m pretty sure I did get a m/f pair since the guy I got them from was extremely honest. I just hope it was a simple mislabling of the pics instead of putting them in the wrong deli-cups...otherwise, I’m going to be extrmely confused, especially when they are able to breed! It just wouldn’t feel right finding eggs in a "male’s" cage!! Lol!!!
Anyway, I’m going to e-mail the guy and see if he remebers which one was which or if he might of made a mix up (he probably won’t remember after 7 months...but oh well)! I’ll sex them next week after I’m taught how to, but I’m just kicking myself and pulling out my hair for not checking earlier (or comparing them to the pics)!!
Ah! I just can’t believe this is happening!!
I hope you find some humor from my mistake and learn from it...have a vet sex your snakes when you first get them...just to be sure! (or sex them yourself if you know how to)...

At least your catching it now if they are mixed up ... that could have been interesting next breeding season!!!

Re: BIG Mistake-I’m just kicking myself!
Very valuable learning lesson. I sex my snakes as soon as they come out of the box, egg or whatever else they may be packed in when I receive them. Especially when you are receiving some project animals, sex of the animals is definitely an important part. I have a friend who got a pair of Het. Lavender Albinos confused for about seven months. Fortunately he found it as well, before he thought he had a 1900 gram female breeding a 700 gram male, and it was really the other way around.

Well, I was taught how to pop them today and we checked and I do indeed have a male and a female...although what was shipped as a male turned out as a female and what was shipped as a female turned out to be a male. At least they're still a pair though! It's going to feel really weird once they hit breeding size/age...
Anyway, thought I'd just let everyone know what they turned out to be! Oh, and picked up one of my normal females that was on a breeding loan.

Uh oh! Can you possibly contact the breeder and see if they would go back in their records to figure it out?

Well since I have a male and a female like I was sold, everything's fine. I think they just got mixed up when they were getting ready to be shipped to me.
