pics of my new rattie and update of litters

here's a pic of our baby ratties... we were taking some out to feed them today so i decided to take a pic of some of them. they are 3 weeks old.

we've moved these bigger ones into a tank... with one mama and then left one mama with the remaining pups. the other one is resting up as she'll be bred first.

and here's the little one we are keeping. her name is felicity! aren't rexs just so darned adorable!

I love the two hoodeds in the upper right hand corner. The one looks almost red. Very cute.

Felicity is adorable. Who couldn't love those curly whiskers.

yes and those are the true colours of what they are like IRL christie!

i'm so thrilled to be feeding my own feeders for the first time today. what a thrill! to know what's gone in to them and knowing they are going to be a 'healthy prey item'.

    makes me happpppy

There is a real satisfaction in producing your own feeders isn't there. I remember feeling this way years ago when I raised chickens and ducks for our dinner table and it's very similar really. Knowing that the creature slated for a food item was raised well, is a great quality animal and was humanely dealt with at the end of it's life just makes me happy.

we get a lot of rexs. the daddy is a rex as are a few of the mamas. and i think the double rexs are the cutest. don't know if there is such a thing... but some of these little ones (felicity is an example of what i'm calling double rex) have the thickest hair i've ever seen. they almost look like sheep!
