He gets weirder by the day…

So, Phleg has developed this new weird habit. When I’m lowering him in the bucket/box to eat, he likes to strike while I’m still holding him, rather than let me set him down first.

It's been two months sice he started and he hasn't let me set him down first since then. ^^

But this is also his first year eatting in winter, so, maybe he's extra hungry.

    The cause/s might be:

    - The prey item is in the box before the snake is placed
    - The room smells like rat, either by presence of the prey item or impregnated fabrics.
    - The box was previously used for feeding and still smells like rodents.

Personally, I feed in my home enclosure too...I haven't had a problem yet, although i've always been told that its not a good idea. I'd just rather not deal with having to move the snake around etc etc...

Sounds ok to me, great enthusiasm. If he goes for your hand, it may be time to consider alternatives. I know that the VPI book mentions moving the snake to clean, after it has struck and is in the middle of constricting, and then putting it back in the tub. So your snake shouldn't be bothered if you have to set him down after the strike.

Entropy, this is the very reason I DON'T feed him in his enclosure. He'd nail me for sure if I did.

Sadie, naw, he's never gone for me since he started this.

I don't understand why you don't feed him in his enclosure? Is there alot of decorations? Everyone I know feeds in the enclosure. Less stress for everyone.

As I said, he'd nail me for sure.

...I didn't say it was stressful for either of us.
