    Calcium question

I bought the Rep Cal brand phosphorous free calcium with vitamin D3 supplements. Is this all I need to dust the crickets with or is there other vitamins that my leo will need? Also, do I need to wait a week to let him settle in and then feed him like I do when I get a new snake? I havn't seen anything about that on the caresheets I've read.

    Re: Calcium question

when i first got my leos i just put a few crix in the first night then checked again in the morning they ate them all up with no probs at all so i fed them normally after that . i dust there food with nutrobal same sort of stuff that you are using and i also give them fresh veg and abit of fruit , i think of locusts, crickets etc as empty containers for vitamins so i load em with the vitamins from there fruit/veg then dust em and chuck em in

    Re: Calcium question

the rep cal calcium and herptivite (that amy linked to) can be used together. i dust all crickets with that but only dust their mealworms about half the time. if you want to give mealworms in a dish right away that's fine but i might wait until tomorrow on the crickets.

    Re: Calcium question

Thanks for the link Amy, I actually saw that at petsmart the other day but didn't know if I would need it, I'll be going to petsmart tomorrow so I'll get some of that and some small crickets too. If you don't mind me asking what kinds of fruit and vegetables do they like best? Thanks for the advice.

    Re: Calcium question

i don't feed fruits or vegetables. i've heard of people giving them on occasion, but they are not a usual part of the leo diet. if you were to offer them i would advise to stay away from anything citrus, as most reptiles can't handle that much citric acid.

    Re: Calcium question

I think he meant feeding the crickets fruits/veggies, if I read that correctly. I just give my crickets slices of raw carrot and potato, and water. That's about it I don't think the Leo would appreciate the vegetarian side dishes.

    Re: Calcium question

ha after re-reading that i think you're right becky. i have heard of people offering their leos fruit mixes that they were feeding their crested geckos, but i think the general consensus on that was that the mix was way more sugar than leos needed in their diets ...

Yep! I can't imagine Leopards having loud, racuous parties in the middle of the nightfrom too much sugar. Now Cresteds... They have parties!
