90 qt Rubbermaid

Hey all-


I am toying with the idea of getting a BD. I have a quick question. I have a rubbermaid container that is very long and deep. It comes with it's lid and if I cut out the center and put chicken wire or another type of wired mesh over place of the hole, could I use the rubbermaid as a habitat?

It could easily hold half a bag of play sand and the lights and heat source could sit on the mesh. For feeding I'd feed in a seprete tub.

What do you all think? I just ran and looked at it and it is a 90qt container. I'd only have one BD in there.

I've seen a lot of people that keep BD's that way...cheap, easier to clean that a glass enclosure of the similar dimensions for sure.

I would pass on the playsand and the tub.

Putting ball pythons in a tub is one thing....but putting a very active and interactive animal like a bearded in one is something entirely different. I used a tub to house beardies before to test it out, and I would recommend getting something that a bearded can clearly see out of. They will interact with you much more and it will be a much better keeping experience.

Playsand is dangerous for young beardeds and can lead to impactions. Some sands have even been know to cause complication in adult beardeds as well. I would recommend using papertowls or newspaper for babies, and a substrate such as reptile carpet or Yesterday's News Original Unscented Cat litter.

With the tub thing, that makes sense with them being so active and social. I'll consider that.

Now with the Yesterday's News litter, are they able to burrow in that? A friend of mine had two BD and they love to burrow in their substrate.
