milk snakes eye did not shed off?

I was wondering if I used some a peice of tape and put it on my finger could I just roll it across my snakes eye and try to remove the old skin? has anyone tried this and did your snake get upset? Also any other ideas would be helpful. I don't want to stress my pet at all since it is always a calm snake and I don't want to do anything to cause it to distrust me.

I would NOT use the tape idea. There have been cases where the eye has been completely removed from the socket, or damaged beyond repair.

A very simple solution to any retained shed is to soak in tepid water for 60 minutes. You can repeat the procedure once daily until all shed is going, including eyecaps. I throw an old washcloth in the container while soaking, and then use it to help wipe off the shed.

It's alreay soaking in a rubbermaid container with minimal holes to keep the humidity up. I will try the washcloth. Yikes the entire eye was removed? I don't even want to think about that!

Here's a thread of someone who rescued a snake that is now blind from the attempts of the previous owner trying to remove retained eyecaps. It's just not worth the risk. I would even recommend putting a humid hide into the enclosure as well.

In a book I read on Milksnakes, by WP Mara, the author advises to put a little mineral oil on the eyecap to soften it.
