    perlite vs. vermiculite

What are the differences in these? I did a search on them but most came up just people mentioning them in what they use or suggest to use for incubation.

    Re: perlite vs. vermiculite

I have used the vermiculite to hatch gecko eggs, and I intend to use a coarse grain vermiculite for any bps eggs I may incubate. Here's a picture of the differences.

    Awesome pics Tiger...you're the best

I use perlite for use with substrateless incubation. I seemed to hold the water better, all I needed it for was a stabalizer for the water to hold its form and not sloosh around.

I can mix vermiculite by feel ... perlite never really feels quite right when I try and use it ... I'll stick with vermic.

    Re: perlite vs. vermiculite

I have tried both, vermiculite and perlite. I use a mixture of the two. The perlite, when mixed into the vermiculite, seems to do a better job keeping the moisture from making direct contact with the egg. I think vermiculite is more absorbant than perlite.

I know people who use just vermiculite, just perlite or a mixture of the two with success. I personally like straight vermiculite or a mixture of the two. I don't care for straight perlite.
