Question Have you ever feed your mice crickets as a treat?

I buy 4 dozen large crickets every few months or so and feed them to my mouse breeders. Its very funny to watch them pounce around trying to catch the crickets lol.I do have the cricket food for the crickets until they become a mouse treat. It gives them a little excercise and a treat at the same time .

No, but I used to give my pet rats superworms on occasion. They grab them greedily, eat the head off and lick the insides out. Yum yum.

is there a disadvantage to constantly feeding crickets or superworms?

or is it like chocolate to humans...eat it occasionally and savor the moment...or eat it daily and be a couch potato?

I have four rescued spiney mice that absolutely love the discoid roaches that I feed to the tegu lizards.

Re: Have you ever feed your mice crickets as a treat?

I've posted a few times about feeding your rats/african rats crickets. They seriously love them. It might take them a time or two to realize they are supposed to eat those bugs(I had some deprived ratties) but then whooo hooo!!
Mealworms too. But crickets run and jump, more fun to watch.

I just gave my mice some for the first time the other day and they loved it. I wouldnt want to base their diet on them, but as a treat I assume they would be fine.
