At last I got a beauty!

    Hi,
After months of searching I finally found a beauty snake to buy! Its a taiwan beauty snake and a little over 5 feet long, amazing girth on her aswell!! Shes about two years old and is the most placid, calm and friendly snake Ive ever seen, even more so than my ball and my corn! Shes in shed at the mo so Ill post some pics of her when shes looking nice and fresh and colourful! I know some people keep beautys on this site so if they can reply that'd be awesome as Ill know who they are then and can send some PMs to them if i have any questions later on. One thing now though, I know they're terrestrial snakes but heard a lot about them liking to climb trees. At the mo Im keeping her in a very large tub but its only about 10" deep. I know this may not be ideal for a beauty so I may move her to a large tank ASAP depending on all your feedback. Ive done a LOT of research on them but can find nothing on using tubs as an enclosure. The tub I am using has more floorspace however than any of the recommended tanks Ive read about in their caresheets (ie 50 gallon glass) so would this be ok for the next few months or so?

Any feedback on beautys, pics of your enclosures and random advice would be SO MUCH appreciated!

    Thanks!

Re: At last I got a beauty!

    Congrats!! Beauties are awesome snakes!!

My female blue likes to investigate *everything*. Something to climb on an explore would likely be a bonus. Tubs are just fine, and I think the bigger the better in any and all directions is a good thing for an active adult (or near adult!) beauty. The website in my sig has a bunch of info about blue beauties, which should apply to Taiwanese too, I believe, though I need to update the pics on there of enclosures. Hope that helps!

Re: At last I got a beauty!

sorry bout the delay with the pics everyone, my girlfriend has my camera charger so until I get that its no pics im afraid. Should have em up by friday though! One more thing, anyone who keeps beautys (or rat snakes of a similar size...if they exist?!) could you pleeeeease post some pics of your enclosures, with dimensions if possible? My beautys tub has about 5.5 sq ft of floorspace but I really want a tank to let her climb and explore a bit more! Come on people, everyone loves enclosure pics! (and a few beauty pics thrown in wouldnt hurt )

    Cheers!

Re: At last I got a beauty!

Here's my enclosures of the moment. The wood one is from Custom Wood Reptile Cage Company whom I highly recommend! I plan on getting more from her eventually, but bigger next time. I'd like to have all my adult beauties in nice big decorative inescapable cages like that. You can pick the stain and everything, gorgeous!

Here's Neptune in his lovely wood cage. He's in there, I swear! Tucked into the hide.

And this one's from back when I used to use Carefresh as substrate. Still use it for the bunnies, but paper all the way now for the snakes! He's peeking out of his humid hide, which our pair need badly out here in tanks in AZ. A lot less neccessary with a tub.

And here's the diva Ma-tsu. She fits into that hide just as snugly as Neptune does his, she just doesn't always wanna. I hate this tank, but I don't want to have a new cage shipped to me till after we move.

    She loves her little spa.

Both enclosures are about 4ft long, 19" high, and 13" deep. 50L tank sized. But like I said, I'd really like to go bigger and give them lots more room. This is okay for now, the minimum, but bigger is better for these beauties.

Anytime! I love that wood cage to bits, and there's no way he can get out of there. He's tested it. The prices are rediculously reasonable, especially considering the quality and the customer service are so awesome. I want a whole showroom of them eventually!
